An Honest Review of Rhode Skin

‘Clean Girl’, ‘Strawberry Makeup’, and even ‘Latte Makeup’ are the names being thrown around over on Tik Tok by Hailey Rhode Bieber as she films and posts her current makeup and skincare routines. ‘Clean Girl’ representing a glowy, glazed, skincare routine, ‘Strawberry Makeup’ highlighting her use of a berry blush and fake freckles; perfect for the summer months and ‘Latte Makeup’, ideal for the colder, autumn days, a darker, more bronzed makeup look. Hailey’s fan base were quick to jump on the looks, replicating them, and posting them to their own Tik Tok pages.

Hailey Rhode Bieber, a model, influencer, and media personality created her first brand, named after her own middle name; Rhode, with the aim to have products that will aid in having healthier skin for her, her fanbase and now, large, customer base. The overall brand and the products, feels very personal, inviting and as though Hailey is personally guiding you through the process of discovering your own skin type, finding a Rhode product that benefits your skin type, to then packaging it up and sending it directly to your door.

I chose to focus my recent, and final university project on the brand, as their social media presence and advertising is so compelling. I admire Hailey Bieber and her own personal aesthetic; girly, natural, and intentional. It was fundamental for me to highlight a brand that I was inspired by as I would be heavily researching it for so many months. So, this meant I wanted to try the products I would be discussing within the project, for ‘research purposes’, essentially testing these beautifully crafted skincare products, and as someone who loves skincare; this was an easy job!

I purchased the ‘Pineapple Refresh Cleanser’ and the ‘Salted Caramel Peptide Lip Treatment’ online (rhodeskin.com), as they don’t yet have a physical store where you can purchase the products, it is still unconfirmed as to whether the products will eventually be available to purchase in a physical store.

Pineapple Refresh Cleanser, £28

@rhodeskin

Labelled as the ‘silky golden’ cleansing balm that hydrates, refreshes and gently exfoliates whilst removing built up dirt, SPF, makeup, and impurities that can form on the skin, the cleanser did just that. It foamed up lovely on the face, and my skin felt instantly refreshed and cleansed once rinsed. The one downfall, is the fragrance, stated to be unscented, the balm did have a slight unusual smell which I had to get used to. However, I am still using the balm, two times a day, even six months on, so is definitely a worthwhile purchase that lasts.

Would I repurchase? No.

I do feel cheaper cleansers can do the same job, some high-street brands can still feel as luxurious. Nevertheless, it was nice to try something new, and has been enjoyable.

The Salted Caramel Peptide Lip Treatment, £16

@rhodeskin

Named as the ‘Peptides’, the main goal being to visibly plump, and reduce the look of fine lines. The original peptide treatment has four various flavours, watermelon, salted caramel, vanilla or simply unflavoured. I chose the Salted Caramel, which tastes and smells like the sweet flavour. I would describe the peptide to be a thicker lip balm, more like a lip mask, and it is beautiful on the lips, it plumps and could be worn as a lip gloss as the texture feels so lavish.

Would I repurchase? Yes.

This does what it says it on the tin, and I have never tried a gloss, or balm that moisturisers and plumps the way this one does. And the scent and flavour are spot on! I would love to try the tinted treatments, so I can wear it as a lip gloss.

Rhode have recently announced the launch of their ‘Pocket Blush’ collection, a buildable, cream blush that hydrates the skin for soft cheeks and a glowy finish. In my eyes, this could be a makeup and skincare formula, something that once again has been carefully considered to fit the brand of Rhode. Recognising her popularity of the ‘Strawberry Makeup’ look, and how the blush was the main event. Will we see a shift from skincare to makeup in the next upcoming products from Rhode?

Overall, I absolutely love the aesthetic of the skincare brand, it is so carefully considered to fit its heavily researched target group, they take each season into account when releasing products, lip products for weather where drier lips are common, blush to provide the sun kissed look as we head into the hotter seasons. I am excited to see where they take the brand within the next few months!
